JUSTIN
BELL
Justin
was born in Nairobi in 1962. At the time his family was based on
the spice island of Zanzibar, where he spent his early childhood.
When he was seven years old the family moved back to Kenya, and
he enjoyed the freedom of living on a farm and frequently going
on safari in the holidays.
After
completing his secondary education, he travelled the world for nine
years to satisfy an eager interest in nature, different cultures,
customs and languages. During this period he worked in a wide variety
of fields, including a project to re-introduce the Arabian white
oryx to the central deserts of Oman. He visited many countries in
Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas, as well as Australia.
In
1989 he returned to East Africa and began guiding in Kenya and Tanzania.
Justin and his brother Damian, and other friends started
Sokwe, a safari company specializing in mobile tented safaris in
Tanzania. Aside from custom traditional safaris in East Africa,
Justin leads climbs up Mount Kilimanjaro, and leads safaris in many
areas outside the national parks, integrating wildlife and the local
communities, and enjoying the freedom to walk and night drive.
In
1996 Justin started Wilderness Africa, which markets Justin's safaris
and those of a few other select professional guides. The eternal
traveller, Justin loves any excuse to spend time in the bush. His
wide interests include mammalian life, birdlife, insects, plants,
paleontology, history and culture. He loves exploring the wilderness
with guests as it allows him to frequent his favourite corners,
and to explore new ones.
