WILLIS
OKECH
I am a Luo by tribe, one
of the infamous fishermen from Lake Victoria in Western Kenya, where
I was born on the 16th August 1971. I completed my British style
"A"-Level education in 1989, then for two years I was a volunteer,
working behind the scenes in the Ornithological Department at the
National Museum of Kenya. I have also participated as a guest research
assistant in Hungry for The Earthwatch Institute. On the weekend
of 9-10 October 1993 myself and several colleagues participated
in a 48-hour, charity worldwide bird count, and were lucky enough
to record a worldwide highest total of 279 species. I am a regular
contributor to local wildlife magazines locally, and my photographs
stock several libraries worldwide. I hold a Diploma
in Ornithology and have received several Awards of Merit
from the New York Institute of Photography for a Diploma course
in photography.
