HOWARD SAUNDERS
Since his first safari outing in Kenya over ten years ago, Howard
has acquired a first class knowledge of the African bush. He began
his safari career taking trips around Northern Tanzania, Uganda,
and visiting the Mountain Gorillas of the former Zaire. Combined
with some extensive travel around the rest of the African continent,
Howard has some fun tales of adventure to regale to his guests around
the campfire.
Born and raised in Australia, Howard spent much of his early life
out in the bush. These days instilled a passion for all that makes
up the natural world and he delights in sharing his knowledge and
enthusiasm with his guests.
A firm believer that to conserve the wildlife you must first know
something of it, Howard helped set up an Outdoor Education Program
for Africanchildren of various ages, exposing them to not only the
animals but to the particular environment each species lived in.
Howard's patience with children and interest in their learning has
given him a special appeal to families on safaris. Utilising specialised
knowledge gained from his close association with a US funded wildlife
research unit operating in the Masai Mara, Howard has conducted
safari 'field trips' for undergraduate student groups from American
universities as part of their zoology degree curriculum.
A special interest in not only the large African animals, but also
for the small and the more interesting wonders of Kenya's wild things
has led Howard to begin his own private insect collection.
